Art students are always faced with the problem of how to make time for their art and simultaneously make ends meet. One possible advantage of  choosing Atelier Sonorense is that cost of living is generally lower than the norm in more developed countries.

A few years ago, for example, a room could be rented in nearby Alamos for $60 US per month, and a mansion could be rented for $500 monthly. Recently demand has risen, driving rent prices up. One can still rent a comfortable apartment for as little as 2000 pesos/month in Alamos.

Since most of the 200 or so foreign residents of Alamos are in town only on a seasonal basis, housesitting opportunities abound.
