Atelier Sonorense is in Alamos, Sonora, the "Gem of the Sierra Madre." It is just a 70 minute drive from a beautiful undeveloped beach at Huatabampito, on the Sea of Cortez.

Aside from beautiful beaches, the Sea of Cortez is known for its diverse array of marine life. The Agiabampo/Bamocha estuary,  still very near its pristine state,   is one of the finest examples of this coastal habitat that exists today. Along its shores are expansive cactus forests which makes for an interesting juxtaposition of species.

Alamos close to several traditional  Mayo and Guarijio Indian villages. They are known for their handicrafts, and traditional religious rituals and dances.

The world famous Copper Canyon railway journey, which runs through Tarahumara Indian country, can begin in Los Mochis or El Fuerte, Sinaloa, each just a short drive from Atelier Sonorense.

Alamos  was originally a silver mining town, with extravagant mansions. Beginning in the 1950s, wealthy Americans and Canadians began to buy the ruins of old mansions and restore them. Now it is a thriving tourist destination, known for its relaxing atmosphere and an international music festival held every January.

The entire region is well known among avid birdwatchers as an area of amazing diversity of species. Alamos is home to a variety of very unique ecosystems that occur where the Sonoran Desert meets Tropical Deciduous Forest.
